The Open to All concert series is a joint venture between the CAFOD groups at Our Lady Star of the Sea and St Joseph’s. The concerts will take place during the 2012 British Open Golf Championship from Monday 16th - Saturday 21st July. Many of the concerts will take place in our own church and indeed will show off the talents of some of our own parishioners. Profits from the
concerts will be shared between CAFOD, the church venues and to pay expenses for some of the performers.

Tickets will go on sale after each mass from the weekend of 14th/15th April and are also available via the website www.open2all.co.uk, where details of all the concerts can be found.

One added advantage of this fabuu-lous series of concerts, (which has been inspired and led by Mary Whittle from St Joseph’s parish, and supported by a group of parishioners and friends from the immediate area,) is that it will put Our Lady Star of
the Sea Parish / Church, on the map for the duration of the Open Golf event. Do support us in any way you can! You may buy tickets for one or more of the many varied concerts or offer to assist at an event. Or you might wish to sponsor the initiative having an advertising link to your own website. Please email mary@whittles.uk.com if you are keen to find out more.

A party of nine from Our Lady Star of the Sea travelled to Israel and Palestine last September. Our reason for going was twofold. Firstly it was to see the Holy Places, and to walk where Jesus walked. Secondly it was to visit St Joseph’s parish in Jifna, Palestine, to meet both the Parish Priest Father Firas Arida and the congregation. Both Christians and Muslims within the West Bank and Gaza suffer daily from a level of harassment by the Israelis and the dwindling catholic population in Palestine feels isolated from the rest of Christianity. Our aim was to link our Parish with theirs (as is beginning to happen with other Palestinian parishes), both to reassure them that we are aware of their plight, and to offer whatever practical help we can.
The photos in our gallery give a brief glimpse of our time there.
